Safe Toys
The other day I received a package containing a sample of toys from Tantus Silicone. Tantus Silicone makes toys for grown ups and it differs from the others in point of the material they are using- silicone, like the name says. Silicone doesn't smell, is safe and has several more great characterisitcs. Because of this you can boile it, bleach it and it's even dishwasher safe (though you should put them in the upper part). I remember myself bying the classic jelly toys, beeing scared about the smell. And I didn't get it that they are not supposed to boil. I boiled them (and I asked some people before the act if the toys will made it through the procedure and they said yes!) ... not that the toys melted actually down but they didn't look the same after. I stored them also in a box and when I opened this box to take one out I wondered why they stuck together like best friends (they even got the color from their neighbors). Today I know that this wasn't MY fault.... it just happens to toys that are made from obscure chemicals (to make things softer then there ususally appear). The surface often breaks down and many woman are reacting to it, in an allergic way or with an irritation down there and other worse stuff like this. Silicone is today the only safe material to make toys of a softer nature - the other safe material is pyrex glass (also a great producer is Phallix Glass).
I read lots of this stuff recently in the www and I found especially Violet Blue (hardworking writer, podcaster, blogger in sex terms) very informing. Here you can find a very good article of her to this topic.
The only thing one has to remember with toys made from silicone: don't use it with silicone lube. Easy to remember, no silicone on silicone. It will not always damage the toy but there is a good chance it will. It is said that one can test it on the upper part (which is adjusting at Tanuts most of the time to an harness as well). Again, I was at a local store and wanted to buy a lubricant. Shortly before paying I remembered that and asked the guy about it. He had absolutly no clue and sadly he didn't know either that Eros /Pjur makes also a waterbased lube. After another research in the www I found out that Pjur has a water-based-formula line and I purchased it quickly. So watch out for imformation, you can never get enough of it. Even at your local store you can't be sure to get proper information, sadly.
